The disappearance of the most operator of ETTV, a TV-torrent distribution group, last December has left the longer term of the site uncertain, reports TorrentFreak.
As a result, ETTV had to change to a replacement domain name some days ago.
For those unaware, when the popular torrent site ExtraTorrent pulled down the curtains on its website in 2017, several prominent uploaders and groups like ETTV, ETHD, and DTOne were left within the lurch.
That’s when ETTV, ETHD, and DTOne decided to collaborate and launch their own torrent website called ETTV.tv.
Over the years, the site’s traffic has grown gradually making it a medium-sized torrent site with a passionate and vetted group of normal uploaders.
While the site has been functioning as was common in recent months, the sudden disappearance of the most ETTV operator controlling the domains, servers, and ads, has left the staff behind the scenes with a significant problem.
According to TorrentFreak, ETTV administrator "sidekickbob" had informed them that the operator last logged in December last year, which is additionally an equivalent time he had sent out an email to him telling him that he was having health problems.
With no official word from the operator for pretty much four months, "sidekickbob" decided to step into action. Firstly, he disabled the ads that he had no control over. He then paid the bills and got the site’s server back. Currently, ETTV will use magnet links only.
To ensure that sidekickbob has full control over the server, he switched to a brand-new domain name, ETTVdl.com. Although he has access to the registrar login of the opposite domains additionally to root access to the server, sidekickbob wants to stop a "third-party" from taking up .
"I redirected all traffic from ettv.to," sidekickbob told TorrentFreak, adding that the opposite domains are set to expire later this year.
This domain change was also communicated within the forums, with none additional contextual detail.
The ""new" admin has plans to revive some ads in order that he pays the bills till the time the first operator returns. Currently, sidekickbob is just working as a temporary admin and is trying to find a trusted one that can work because the main operator. If he’s unable to seek out someone, he has plans to shut the location down.
"It’s all left to me, and if I don’t manage to transfer it to somebody else I will be able to eventually shut it down, possibly at the top of this year," he said, adding that he doesn’t have adequate time to manage the site himself.
This leaves a large question mark on ETTV’s future. The new admin doesn’t have plans to sell the location to the very best bidder but to a third-party who features a good diary and a few experiences.
"Ultimately my intention is to sell it to somebody that desires to run the torrent site. Preferably somebody that has experience in running a medium traffic torrent site. I’m not getting to provides it to some random kids," sidekickbob concluded.
